Why Wolves should push to sign Maxi Gomez from Valencia
According to the Daily Mail, Premier League side Wolves are keeping a close eye on Valencia’s Uruguayan striker Maxi Gomez.
With the La Liga club in dire financial situation, it is expected that they could sell Gomez either this January or in the summer. And Wolves are among a host of clubs, along with Arsenal, Manchester City, that are monitoring the developments. (h/t Daily Mail)

Gomez started out his footballing journey at local club Club Atletico Litoral in Uruguay, before having stints at the academies of Estudiantil and Huracan before he signed for Defensor. Having linked up with the Under-19s initially, the striker made his first-team debut in 2015 and went on to register 29 goals and 12 assists in 52 games.
Gomez earned his move to Europe in 2017, signing for La Liga side Celta Vigo in the summer of 2017. The 24-year-old enjoyed a couple of fruitful seasons with the club, bagging 31 goals in 75 matches before securing a transfer to Valencia last year.

Having made his debut for the Uruguayan national team back in 2017, Gomez has featured 19 times for La Celeste, netting three times in the process.
Gomez would add quality and depth to Wolves’ attack
Wolves are a centre-forward short at the moment after Raul Jimenez fractured his skull after a collision with Arsenal defender David Luiz. The Mexican international has undergone a surgery and is recovering but there is no timescale on when he will be able to return. (h/t Daily Mail)
The Midlands outfit did invest heavily to bring in Fabio Silva last summer. However, at 18 years of age, the forward is still pretty much a raw talent with little experience at the highest level. In seven appearances this term, Silva is yet to find the back of the net.
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo can call upon either of Pedro Neto or Daniel Podence in the centre-forward role but neither are natural strikers. Thus, bolstering that area in the January transfer window would be the right move for the club.
And while Gomez hasn’t had the best of starts to the new season, he is worth taking a punt. The 24-year-old is one of the most highly-rated forwards in La Liga and with over 100 league appearances in Spain, he has experience under his belt as well.

Verdict
With Jimenez’s unfortunate injury, Wolves are a striker short and need to address that issue in the winter transfer window. And a move for Valencia’s Maxi Gomez would help Santo add more quality and depth to the attacking department at the Molineux.
