Why Wolves handing a new contract to Nuno Espirito Santo is a step in the right direction

According to The Guardian, Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has agreed to open contract talks with the club in the near future.

Nuno, 46, started as a goalkeeping coach before taking over the reins at Rio Ave FC, his first job as a manager. After managing 80 games for the Portuguese outfit, he signed a one-year deal with Spanish club Valencia and led them to the fourth-place finish in La Liga in his first season in Spain.

The former Portuguese goalkeeper then took charge at FC Porto but could not be successful as he was devoid of any silverware. However, his managerial career has taken an upward turn since joining Wolves in the summer of 2017.

After Wolves’ six-year absence from the top flight, Nuno guided them to the Premier League. The Midlands club secured promotion with 4 games to spare and eventually went on to emerge as the Championship winners.

However, the manager has just one more year left on his contract at Molineux and thus, it would be a good step to hand the former Valencia boss a new deal. The report also suggests that Nuno’s management qualities have attracted admirers from a variety of clubs.

Nuno could be the right person to guide Wolves to greater heights

The 46-year-old has also taken Wolves to unbelievable heights. In his first season in the top flight, he led them to the 7th place finish in the league – earning qualification to the UEFA Europa League. Wolves reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

And that hasn’t stopped there. They are currently in the 6th position in the league this term and have also progressed further in the Europa League.

Within just 2 years in the Premier League with Wolves, the manager has done a great deal for the club. The Black Country club has been in terrific form in the past two seasons as they are known to upset the top six teams in the league.

In addition, the manager has brought in some world class talents such as Ruben Neves, Adama Traore, Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota, among others, and has been successful in getting the best out of them.

And given more time and experience, the manager is capable of doing better and leading the club to greater heights. His tactics have been highly instrumental for the club and he seems to be the right person to guide Wolves.
