Why Tottenham signing Lucas Vazquez would be a smart move by Mourinho

Tottenham are getting closer to signing Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez, according to the Mirror (h/t Express). He is rated at £22.5m.

Lucas’ opportunities at Real Madrid have been limited and there might be a new opportunity awaiting the player away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Vazquez is out of contract in the summer of 2021 and will likely look away, as the player has been pushed down the pecking order especially since the arrival of Eden Hazard and Rodrygo Silva de Goes.

This season, the player has just started in six La Liga fixtures and has been used as a substitute on eight occasions, scoring twice.

Does Mourinho need him?

Vasquez is a player Jose Mourinho will be familiar with, owing to his time at Real Madrid. It does seem with this interest that the manager is looking for one additional option on the wings to compete for the two spots.

Vazquez is a sublime passer of the ball and has good dribbling skills, something that will cause all sorts of problems for the opposition.

The 28-year-old has vast experience, so his addition to the Tottenham squad will certainly be beneficial to Mourinho and an ideal signing. The Spanish international has made over 200 appearances for Real Madrid and is one of the most experienced players in their squad.

The versatility of the player to play on either wing could be a huge boost for the team and his experience would definitely be helpful. Vazquez has shown that he could be a pivotal player and Tottenham will be hoping that the player will bring depth to their side and add more strength.

Given the pandemic situation, with clubs looking for cut-price deals, it could be a viable option for Tottenham to buy Vazquez who is rated at £22.5m.

Tottenham do need depth on the flanks and Vazquez is a player who has proven himself at Real Madrid over the years. He is not the first-choice at the Bernabeu and Mourinho can benefit from signing the Spaniard.
