Why Tottenham should revive their interest in Serhou Guirassy

Back in March, Daily Star suggested that Tottenham were in a battle to sign Amiens star Serhou Guirassy along with Chelsea. However, there have been no talks of such a move since then.

Guirassy, 24, came through the ranks of Stade Lavallois and joined Lille in the summer of 2015. After several loan spells, Bundesliga side FC Koln signed him in the summer of 2016. He made 45 appearances for the German outfit before joining Amiens last summer.

He went on to establish himself as an integral member of the squad and was in fine form before the Ligue 1 came to an abrupt end. Thus, Tottenham should attempt to make a move by reigniting their interest in the striker when the summer window reopens.

Guirassy could add depth to Tottenham’s attack

After selling Fernando Llorente and Vincent Jansen last summer, the Lilywhites failed to bring in a backup for Harry Kane. The English ace did well without any proper backup until he got injured and his absence left a huge dent in the attacking unit.

Tottenham found it hard to score at regular intervals in the absence of Kane. Lucas Moura was used in the centre-forward position but the Brazilian failed to live up to the expectations. Therefore, to avoid such limitations, Mourinho must bring in fresh faces before the start of the new campaign.

They need to have a full-strength squad and to do that, they must bring in a striker who is not only capable of playing a supporting role but also be able to lead the line whenever necessary. Hence, they should reignite their interest in Guirassy.

Despite Amiens enduring a poor season, Guirassy has been in fine form. He has scored 9 goals for the club and has bettered his goal tally from the last campaign. He is the club’s top scorer this season and has the ability to transform into a lethal striker with time. He could be of good value to the team if he is able to replicate his red-hot form at Tottenham.

Verdict

At 24, it would be the right time for the former Koln man to step into the Premier League, and Tottenham should be able to enjoy his best days, which is yet to come. And this would be a platform for Guirassy to establish himself. Thus, Spurs should revive their interest in the Frenchman this summer.
