Why Tottenham should reignite their interest in Habib Diallo

Back in November, TEAMtalk (h/t The Sun) claimed that Tottenham were in the hunt to sign Metz star Habib Diallo but a deal didn’t take place and the striker stayed put in France.

Diallo, 24, came through Generation Football FC’s youth ranks in Senegal and was signed by Metz’ B team in 2013. He was then sent on two different loan spells to Stade Brest and made 50 appearances for the side, scoring 16 goals before returning to his parent club.

He has become an integral member of the team under Vincent Hognon over the last two seasons. In the last campaign, he scored 26 goals and provided 6 assists and helped the French outfit get promoted to the top flight in the country. And has continued with the same form into this season, having already racked up 12 goals and 3 assists.

Given, he is in red-hot form and his extremely high qualities, Tottenham should move for him in the upcoming transfer market.

Jose Mourinho’s side has faced difficulties in the last few months, despite starting on a high note under the new manager. The Lilywhites were knocked out of the FA Cup competition by minnows Norwich City and have suffered a similar fate in other games. And the long-term injury to Harry Kane has worsened the situation.

After deciding to sell Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen in the summer, they failed to bring in a replacement to their attacking and have struggled without the presence of the English striker. Hence, the manager should go into the market for an established striker.

In that case, Metz striker Habib Diallo would be a perfect addition to the squad. As of now, Lucas Moura has failed as a centre-forward and no one has been an able leader upfront in the absence of Kane.

Diallo is enjoying the form of his life and has time and again saved his side with some crucial goals in the Ligue 1. He has been finding the back of the net at a decent rate and has missed just one league game so far in the campaign.

The 24-year-old would be the perfect replacement for Kane, whenever he is injured or given a break. He has the potential to develop further and Tottenham should take a chance to get the best out of him.

Verdict

Tottenham’s lack of quality options up front has cost them several games and this can be avoided to some extent if the Senegalese striker joins.

Therefore, Tottenham should revive their interest in Diallo ahead of the summer transfer window and lure him to North London.
