Why Thiago Alcantara to Liverpool would boost their midfield
As per Bild’s Christian Falk (h/t Liverpool Echo), Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara wants to join Liverpool in the summer.
Alcantara, 29, is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth academy. He made 100 appearances for the Catalans’ first-team. After winning a Champions League title and four La Liga titles with Barcelona, the Spaniard moved to Germany with Bayern Munich in 2013.
Since then, he has gone on to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe. He has won 7 German league titles so far and has been a key player for Bayern to date. He has also represented Spain on 37 occasions.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are atop the league table, 23 points ahead of second-placed Manchester City. After their Champions League glory last season, they are on course to lift the Premier League title for the first time in the modern era.
Klopp has managed to get the best out of his players in every department. However, the manager needs to bring in reinforcements to the squad if they are to continue with their dominance in further campaigns.
Thiago – A perfect midfielder to add depth to Liverpool’s midfield
Liverpool have a plethora of attack-minded midfielders in their ranks in Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Adam Lallana and James Milner. And the midfield contingent is one of the best in Europe.
Led by Henderson, Liverpool’s midfield has been brilliant in the last two seasons. However, Keita is still struggling to settle to the conditions of the Premier League and Milner is already 34 and reaching the rear end of his career. Furthermore, Lallana’s contract expires this summer. Thus, Klopp needs to bring in an experienced midfielder to ensure his team stays at the top.
In that regard, signing Thiago would be a massive boost to their squad. The Spaniard has been at the top of his game for several years. He is one of the key players for Bayern Munich, having made 230 appearances for them till date. He has featured in 24 games this season and has helped his side to yet another league title, bagging three goals.
The 29-year-old would undoubtedly bring in a wealth of experience to Klopp’s squad, whilst also adding more depth and quality. His inclusion would also bring in healthy competition within the squad.

The Spanish international has already proven his mettle at the top and would be a valuable addition to the Reds’ squad. And Liverpool adding another experienced and world-class midfielder in their ranks would just take the team to the next level. Thus, they should make a move for Thiago and bring him to Anfield this summer.
