Why Real Madrid signing Eduardo Camavinga would be a brilliant move

According to Spanish publication Marca, Real Madrid are keen on signing young French prodigy Eduardo Camavinga, who plies his trade with Stade Rennes in Ligue 1.

Camavinga, 17, came through the ranks of Rennes’ youth set-up and was promoted to the club’s senior team in January 2019. Since making his debut in a 3-3 draw against Angers SCO last season, he has become a regular member of the squad.

The teenager has made 25 league appearances this season and is one of the most exciting youngsters in France. Meanwhile, Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane has managed to take the team to the top after an abysmal 2018/19 season.

Zidane has managed to bring the best out of several players. Despite being 2nd in the league, Real Madrid have not maintained their standards in a few games, where they lost to teams who are lower in status to them.

The Spanish giants have a plethora of midfield talents in their ranks in the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Casemiro, Federico Valverde, Isco and James Rodriguez. However, most of them are 30 or beyond in age and the manager should look to bring in reinforcements.

They have only one defensive midfielder in their ranks – Casemiro. The manager tried Valverde as a cover for the Brazilian but the youngster seems to be comfortable in a slightly advanced role. Hence, Madrid should look to bring in a backup for Casemiro, who has featured regularly without a break.

In that case, youngster Eduardo Camavinga, who has taken the Ligue 1 by storm, would be a good addition to the squad and can be a future star for Real Madrid.

The 17-year-old is immensely talented and has registered an impressive 4.3 tackles per game in Ligue 1. He can be helpful to Real Madrid after Casemiro’s tenure at the club. And the youngster also has experience at a higher level despite his tender age.

The French U21 international has gone from strength-to-strength and has become a key part of Rennes’ squad. In the 25 games he has featured, he has helped the club keep 9 clean sheets, as the French outfit are pushing for Champions League qualification.

Verdict

Casemiro has done more than required for Real Madrid in the last four years and it is time Zidane brought a proper backup for him. They need to bring in reinforcements with a view for the future and Camavinga is the best option available at the moment.

Therefore, it would be a wise decision by the club to sign the 17-year-old at the earliest as he has the ability to develop himself and can be seen as a player for their future.
