Why Real Madrid should sign Raul Jimenez in the summer

According to Don Balon (h/t AS English), Real Madrid are keen on signing Wolves forward Raul Jimenez in the summer to bolster their attacking unit.

Jimenez, 28, came through the ranks of CF America in Mexico and moved to Atletico Madrid in 2015. A year later, he joined Benfica, where he made 121 appearances before going out on loan to Wolves in the Premier League.

He has been a regular under Nuno Espirito Santo in the past two years and has established himself as one of the best forwards in England’s top-flight. In 88 appearances for Wolves, he has scored 39 goals and provided 18 assists and has been impressive since his arrival in the country.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have been inconsistent throughout the campaign despite doing better than last season. They started on a high note but towards the latter stages of the campaign, they have found it difficult and the game against Real Betis is an example of their inconsistency.

Luka Jovic was brought in the summer to add strength to their attacking ranks but the Serbian has failed to deliver. He has scored only 4 goals so far and has fallen down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane.

Experienced campaigner Karim Benzema got off to a flying start, scoring 12 goals in the first 15 la Liga games. However, the Frenchman has also lost his charm in the latter stages and has managed to find the back of the net only on two occasions in the last 10 games.

And Mariano Diaz, who scored the winner in the final minutes of the El Clasico, has seen limited game time. Therefore, it is necessary for Los Blancos to add depth to their frontline and therefore, the manager should bring in reinforcements in the form of Raul Jimenez.

The 28-year-old scored 13 goals in the league last term but has already equalled that tally this season with a few more games to be played. This shows he has been improving himself.

Jimenez has the ability to succeed at a higher level and is capable of operating as a centre-forward and also as a second-striker. He helped his side qualify for the Europa League last season and is capable of being a game-changer.

The Mexico international could be a key part of Real Madrid’s squad if he is able to perform at the same level. He has got immense experience at the highest level and is still going from strength to strength.

Verdict

With Jovic and Diaz out of form, Benzema has been playing regularly without a proper backup. It clearly indicates that they need to bring in an in-form and experienced player and Jimenez would be the right man to give tough competition for the spot. Hence, Real Madrid should make a move for the Mexican in the summer and add him to their ranks.
