Why Rangers should sign Florian Kamberi on a permanent basis

According to Edinburgh Evening News, Rangers have reignited their interest in Hibernian star Florian Kamberi, who spent the last six months on loan at Ibrox. The report also suggests that the striker is keen to make a permanent move to Glasgow ahead of the next season.

Kamberi, 25, came through the ranks of FC Rapperswil-Jona’s youth system and played for clubs like Karlsruher SC and Grasshoppers Club Zurich. He then moved to Hibernian FC initially on loan and has had a successful time so far.

He joined Rangers on loan in January earlier this year and before he could showcase his talent, the league got suspended. However, he has been brilliant in the Scottish League in the last two campaigns and thus, Rangers should look to sign him permanently this summer.

Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard’s men failed in the race for the Premiership title once again, allowing Celtic to lift the trophy for the ninth time in as many years. Despite starting the season on a bright note, they failed to put up a fight as they were left a long way behind their rivals.

Thus, the manager should look to bring in reinforcements for the new season. They have gone without a trophy for a long time and Gerrard should aim to bring success to the club. And this can be done only if they have the required depth in every area before the next campaign starts.

Kamberi could be a leader in Rangers attack

Jermaine Defoe and Alfredo Morelos have been the two main strikers available at the manager’s disposal. The duo had done well throughout the last campaign, scoring 25 of the 64 goals the team has scored in the league this term.

However, Morelos has been heavily linked with a move away from the club and Defoe is already 37 and nearing the back end of his career. Thus, to strengthen the attacking unit, signing Kamberi on a permanent basis would be a good idea.

The Albanian racked up 8 goals and 5 assists in the Premiership in 2018/19 and continued with the form into this term with 4 goals and 5 assists in 26 league games in 2019/20. He has done well in the Premiership in the past and can be the key to Rangers’ attacking unit next season if Morelos leaves. His signing would add depth and quality to Gerrard’s squad.

Verdict

At 25, Kamberi is at the right time of his career to take his game to the next level. He can be the leader in the Gers’ attack next season and should only get better with experience. Thus, Rangers should look to sign Kamberi on a permanent basis in the summer.
