Why Rangers must land Florian Kamberi at the Ibrox permanently

According to Daily Record, Scottish Premiership side Rangers have an opportunity to land Florian Kamberi for a bargain £150,000 this summer.

The Hibernian striker had spent the second half of the 2019-20 season on loan at the Ibrox, scoring one goal and assisting twice from 9 matches across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Hibs are prepared to let go of their 25-year-old striker, with the pandemic forcing the club to sell some of their players in order to help balance the financial situation. Having moved to Hibernian in the summer of 2018 from Swiss side Grasshopper, Kamberi has scored 30 goals and provided 13 assists from a total of 84 matches.

Having proved himself as a consistent goal-scorer in such a short duration with the Hibs, there is no questioning Kamberi’s talents. However, with his club now forced to sell him, Rangers have an excellent opportunity to make his stay at the Ibrox a permanent one.

Kamberi can offer Rangers depth in the striking department

Meanwhile, Rangers have had an excellent season in the Scottish Premiership finishing second but have failed to topple rivals Celtic’s dominance in the domestic circuit. Celtic won their 9th successive domestic league title in a row and Rangers needs to bring in some reinforcements if they wish to end their rivals’ winning streak in Scotland.

Steven Gerrard’s side are blessed with an excellent goal-scorer in first-choice Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos but lack depth in the department, with veteran Greg Stewart being the only back-up option.

Morelos has been one of the top-strikers in Scotland in recent times and was in sensational form this season, also scoring a massive 29 goals across all competitions for Rangers. Meanwhile, Stewart, who arrived from Championship side Birmingham City last summer has managed just three goals despite featuring 24 times for them this season.

The lack of a consistent goal-scorer apart from Morelos was one of the major reasons why Gerrard had opted to land Kamberi on loan to the Ibrox until the end of the season.

Now with the season officially finished, it would be wise of Rangers to bring back their former loan star as it will offer them more options in their battle for title contention.

Verdict

First of all, it is clearly evident that Rangers have a dearth of established goal-scorers in their ranks and Kamberi’s arrival will only make them stronger. A proven customer with Hibs, Kamberi will offer them more options for a chance at the title. Moreover, having proved himself at Rangers while on loan it will not take Kamberi much time to adjust to the new surroundings at Ibrox.
