Why Watford must not sell Luis Suarez this summer

According to The Sun, Premier League outfit Watford are ready to spark a £10million auction for their striker Luis Suarez.

The 22-year-old Suarez joined Watford back in 2017 but has never kicked a ball for the side, spending most of his time out on loan with other clubs. Suarez, meanwhile, has been a hit on loan for Real Zaragoza in Spain’s second division this season.

The Colombian finisher has turned a few heads, scoring a whopping 18 goals from 33 league games for Zaragoza, helping them to second place in the league table. Suarez has been key to Zaragoza’s rise to the top of the table that might seem them earn an almost certain promotion to the La Liga next season.

He has also contributed to the side with four assists, giving a clear indication of the talent that he is. Unfortunately, he is an unwanted man at his parent club Watford, who are now looking to offload him.

Suarez can solve the attacking woes at Watford

Watford, meanwhile, are just two spots ahead of the relegation zone following a string of poor displays in the Premier League this season. The Hornets have managed to win just six of their overall 31 league outings so far, majorly due to the side’s lack of a consistent goal-scorer in the attack.

They have the joint second-worst attacking record in the league with just 29 goals. Skipper Troy Deeney remains the side’s obvious first-choice finisher. However, he has been far from impressive, scoring a mere six goals so far.

Apart from Deeney, Watford have four more strikers in their ranks but none has delivered the goods until now. They had roped in Danny Welbeck from Arsenal last summer. However, the Englishman has not scored a single goal yet and has mostly spent the time warming the benches.

Andre Gray, on the other hand, has managed just two goals despite featuring 21 times in the league. This saw Watford buy young striker Joao Pedro from Fluminense in the January transfer window.

Pedro, however, is only 18 and is yet to make his Premier League debut for the side. Considering all this, it would be foolish if the club decides to sell Suarez, who has been in sensational form in Spain.

He is only 22 now and Watford should keep more faith in him and offer him chances rather than selling him. Having consistently found the back of the net at Zaragoza, Suarez could be the answer to Watford’s attacking woes.

Verdict

Despite having enough back-up in their striking department, Watford have suffered miserably in front of goal this season. Suarez’s return could, hence, ease the pressure upon Watford whether they stay in the top-flight or get relegated. Also, he is still young and will be itching to prove a point if given a chance. This, in turn, will help the Hornets at least next season.
