Newcastle United interested in David Turnbull – Do they need him?

Newcastle have been linked with David Turnbull and according to Chronicle Live, the Magpies are said to have scouted the player on a number of occasions.

Turnbull, 21 years old, came through the ranks of Motherwell’s youth system and became a regular for the club’s first-team last season but an injury saw the player miss the majority of the 2019/20 campaign.

On the other hand, the Magpies have been inconsistent throughout the campaign and their run of poor performances in the past few weeks has pushed them out of the top half of the table. The Magpies are currently 13th in the table.

The Magpies do have a lot of players in the midfield but they haven’t performed well going forward. David Turnbull was impressive last season and would be a brilliant addition to the squad. The 21-year-old has shown a lot of potential, scoring 16 goals and 7 assists across all competitions, which was the highest tally at the club last season. The Scot was important as the side finished 8th in the table.

In the midfield, Bentaleb and Lazaro are only on loan and thus, a permanent signing would be required to boost the midfield. For Bruce, Turnbull would be a boost to the attacking options. The player could develop very well under the guidance of Steve Bruce.

Primarily a central midfielder who likes to operate from one box to another, Turnbull can easily play as an attacking midfielder and give the Magpies a boost going forward, something they have struggled with this season.

Final words

The 21-year-old is definitely a shining young talent in Scottish football. The best thing about his game is goal-scoring, something that would be a great boost for the Magpies. The club’s biggest worry this season has been their attack. The youngster is a goalscoring midfielder who would improve Newcastle going forward.

Hence, the Magpies should turn this interest into a deal and Turnbull could add a real impact next season.
