Why Michal Karbownik to Celtic would boost their left-back options

According to Daily Record, Celtic have been monitoring Legia Warsaw left-back Michal Karbownik and are interested in signing him in the summer.

Karbownik, 19, came through the ranks of Legia Warsaw’s youth system was promoted to the club’s senior set-up back in February 2019 after impressing for the youth sides. The teenager has gone on to become a regular member of the first team this season.

He has also come through various youth levels for Poland national team and is regarded as one of the most exciting left-backs in the country. The report also suggests that his impressive performances have garnered the attention of several clubs including Leeds United and Barcelona.

Celtic, meanwhile, have dominated the Premiership in the past decade. They lifted the title for the 9th time in a row when the 2019/20 season was brought to an abrupt end.

However, Hoops boss Neil Lennon needs to bring in reinforcements to the squad if they are to compete in European games. They have been dumped out of the Europa League and have continued to struggle in the European competitions. Thus, the manager has to make sure that they have adequate numbers in each position which would be helpful to achieve progress in further campaigns.

Karbownik could be a future left-back for Celtic

The Hoops’ backline has been strong throughout the season. However, adding a left-back to the squad would be good for the club. Kieran Tierney played a key role in that position for several years before his departure last summer to Arsenal.

Greg Taylor and Boli Bolingoli are the two left-backs available at the moment. While Bolingoli started regularly earlier in the campaign, he has not been the same since his return from injury. As a result, Taylor became the first-choice but is playing in a slightly higher position. However, Lennon should bring in reinforcements to add depth to the squad.

In that regard, Legia Warsaw’s Karbownik would be a good option for the future. The youngster has featured in 23 league games this season, providing 6 assists – more than what Bolingoli and Taylor have managed this term. His rise to the top has been a rather swift one.
