Why Max Aarons could solve the right-back issues of Tottenham

According to Football.london, Tottenham have been linked with a move for Norwich City right-back Max Aarons in the summer.

Aarons, 20, is a product of Luton Town and Norwich City’s youth system. After impressing with the Canaries’ U23 side, he was promoted to the club’s senior set-up in the summer of 2018. After breaking into Norwich’s first-team, he earned a call-up to England’s U19 squad and made his debut against Turkey in September 2019.

The youngster has been impressive in the last two campaigns and has earned rave reviews for his performances. He is one of the most promising young talents in the country and has also attracted interest from several top clubs including Arsenal, West Ham and Everton, as per The Pink Un.

Tottenham have endured a disappointing campaign despite a change in management. Jose Mourinho’s arrival saw them off to a good start but the results didn’t last long. The Lilywhites have also been dumped out of the other cup competitions, whilst finding themselves in 8th position in the league standings.

Mourinho had to do with limited players in the latter stages of the season as some of his key players, including Harry Kane, Heung Min-Son and Steven Bergwijn were injured. Their attack looked blunt without the aforementioned players.

At the same time, the defence has also struggled with inconsistency throughout the campaign. They have conceded 23 goals in the last 17 games and it is clear that the manager needs to bring reinforcements to their backline.

Aarons – A future right-back for Tottenham

Apart from a central defender, Spurs should also look to bolster their wing-back position. They failed to replace Kieran Trippier, who departed last summer, and Serge Aurier was the only right-back available in the squad.

Aurier has featured regularly this season but his error-prone nature has cost the team a lot of points. He has been awful at right-back for the Lilywhites. Thus, the North Londoners should make a move for a young and in-form right-back.

In that regard, Norwich’s Max Aarons would be a suitable option for the club. He is just 20 and could be a future leader at the back for Tottenham. The youngster has featured in 27 league games this term, providing 2 assists, and still has room for development.

The English U21 international’s inclusion to Mourinho’s squad would definitely bring healthy competition to Aurier. He has the ability to succeed at the highest level and under the guidance of Mourinho, he could become one of the best in the business.

Verdict

Given the lack of quality, Tottenham are in dire need of a right-back. And Aarons could provide them with the much-needed depth in the squad. He is just 20 and could go on to represent the Lilywhites in the future. Thus, the North Londoners should make a move for the youngster in the summer.
