Why Marcos Senesi to Everton would bolster their defence

As per The Boot Room (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are interested in signing Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi in the summer.

Senesi, 23, spent seven years with San Lorenzo de Almagro’s youth system, establishing himself as a key member of the club’s senior team. After making 69 top-flight appearances for the Argentine outfit, he moved to the Netherlands with Feyenoord last September.

Though he initially found it hard to fix a spot for himself in Dick Advocaat’s squad, Senesi became a regular member of the team in the last few months before the league was called off.

He has been impressive for the Dutch outfit and his performances have caught the attention of several teams across Europe. Clubs like Getafe, Atalanta and Sevilla are also interested in securing the services of the Argentine U23 international, as per the report.

Senesi could be a future biggie in Everton’s defence

With the season coming to its business end, Carlo Ancelotti should look to bring in reinforcements to the squad with the new season in mind. While there are changes to be made in multiple positions, Ancelotti should first and foremost focus on strengthening the defence.

At the moment, there are only three central defenders available at the manager’s disposal. Michael Keane and Yerry Mina have struggled to be consistent at the back. As a result, the Toffees have conceded 47 goals in 32 league games, which is poor according to their standards.

Mason Holgate is the other centre-back in the squad. The Englishman has been the only bright spot at the back for Everton so far but he has often shifted between the centre-back and defensive midfield roles. Thus, signing a central defender would help the Toffees in adding depth to their backline.

In that regard, Senesi would be a suitable option for the club. the Argentine has been in scintillating form and has helped his side to a third-place finish in the Eredivisie. He has also helped his side keep 7 clean sheets and could be a massive addition to Ancelotti’s squad.

He has shown immense potential in the last few months and could only get better with experience. And under the guidance of Ancelotti, he could develop into a key player for Everton in the future.

Verdict

With Mina being linked with a move away from the club, Everton’s numbers at the back would be reduced if the Colombian leaves in the summer. Thus, they should make a move for Senesi to keep their defensive numbers intact. The Argentine could provide them with some much-needed depth at the back.
