Why Manchester United should make a move for Jeremie Boga

According to ESPN FC (h/t The Metro), Manchester United have made an approach to sign Sassuolo forward Jeremie Boga in the summer.

Boga, 23, is a product of Chelsea’s youth system. Though he was highly rated within the Blues’ youth system, he made just one appearance with the senior set-up before moving to Sassuolo on a permanent basis in the summer of 2018.

After struggling in the Championship with Birmingham City while on loan, he has become a regular starter with the Italian outfit in the last two seasons. He is enjoying one of his most productive campaigns this term. The Ivorian has been impressive since leaving West London permanently. Thus, United should make a move for him this summer.

Boga could add depth to United’s flanks

One key area the manager should focus on strengthening is the wings. Marcus Rashford, Daniel James, Jesse Lingard and Tahith Chong are the wingers available at the manager’s disposal. While Rashford and James have been used regularly, the other two haven’t been convincing so far.

The manager has also used James on the other flank due to a lack of quality in Lingard and Chong. Therefore, adding another winger could help them overcome their limitations.

In that regard, signing Boga would do them a world of good. The Ivorian has been brilliant in the last two seasons for Sassuolo. After scoring 3 goals and 1 assist in 25 league games last season, Boga has managed 8 goals 4 assists in the league this term. This shows the youngster’s development with experience.

He may not walk straight into Solskjaer’s squad at Old Trafford but given his recent form, the 23-year-old could be a valuable addition to United’s ranks. He would definitely add depth to the squad, whilst also bringing healthy competition.
