Go for it Klopp – Why Liverpool would benefit by investing in this talented 22-year-old African ace

Why Liverpool should absolutely sign Patson Daka from RB Salzburg

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have received a boost about their interest in Patson Daka. The Zambian forward wants to make a move to the Premier League and follow in the footsteps of fellow African stars Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Other Premier League sides such as Manchester United and Tottenham have also shown interest in Daka.

Liverpool’s attack has underwhelmed this season

Since the addition of Mo Salah in 2017, Liverpool’s famed attacking troika was completed. Along with Salah, Mane and Firmino terrorized teams for three seasons. While Mane and Salah usually scored the majority of the goals, the impact of Firmino was also important.

Roberto Firmino is a unique forward. His goal contributions are perhaps not the best way to judge his impact and importance at Liverpool. He is Liverpool’s first line of defence and often drops deep to bring the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane into play in central areas.

While both the wingers have carried on their goal-scoring spree, the fact remains that Firmino’s numbers in front of goal are rather bad. His goals have decreased over the years with only the 2017-18 season being an exception.

Last season, he scored a paltry 12 goals in 48 games across all competitions. In 2020/21, the Brazilian has just five goals in 28 matches so far. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Liverpool may need a shot in the arm with someone like Daka

They seemingly look like they could use a shot in the arm and the signing of Patson Daka can go a long way in doing that. He has ridiculous stats for RB Salzburg with 69 goal contributions in just 100 games (h/t Transfermarkt). While those numbers may be in the Austrian league, they are still very good numbers for a 22-year-old.

At Anfield, he will have a star-studded cast to support him. The prospect of Salah, Mane and Daka lining up together is sure to send chills down the opposition’s spine given the amount of goal threat this attack carries.

Sure, it would be a daunting step to perform at those levels at Anfield but the 22-year-old Zambian looks like a natural goalscorer. No matter the situation, no matter the club, he seems to keep finding the net with ridiculous ease. He looks like the ideal player to replace Firmino should the club decide on it.
