Why Leicester would benefit immensely by signing William Carvalho

Leicester have agreed to personal terms with Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho, according to Radio MARCA Sevilla (h/t Daily Mail).

The report states that while Leicester and Carvalho have agreed to terms, the Foxes are not yet offering close to what Real Betis are demanding for the player. William Carvalho has been gaining attention through the years after impressive displays at the Euro 2016, where he was a part of the title-winning Portugal national side.

The player began his career at Sporting CP before moving to Real Betis in 2018. He has become an integral part of the side. Carvalho mainly plays as a defensive midfielder or a central midfielder. He has also played in centre defence when the situation demanded.

William Carvalho has shown that he is a great passer and a dribbler. He has impressed with these abilities and constant performances.

Are the Foxes doing the right thing?

A player in the ilk of William Carvalho would definitely prove to be a great addition to the Foxes. The player is an imposing figure whose presence can add confidence to the team in the middle of the park. The insightful midfielder isn’t just a great passer of the ball but is solid in defence, offering the team extra protection.

Leicester City, meanwhile, have enjoyed the season under manager Brendan Rodgers, as the foxes sit 3rd in the table and look to find Champions League football next season.

In the defensive midfield, the Foxes have the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, who has been spectacular this season. To partner him, the club has Nampalys Mendy, whose contract is expiring this season. Daniel Amartey has been largely away due to injuries.\

Thus, the Foxes are doing the right thing by attempting to bring in cover and an additional player to the position.

A player in the form of Carvalho would come in very handy for Leicester as he has the experience. With the club looking to play in the Champions League, the 28-year-old adds the necessary depth and quality to the midfield.

So the addition of William Carvalho would simply reinforce the Foxes’ defensive midfield options. It can be said the Leicester are right in approaching the Portuguese international.
