Why Leeds United should make a move for Matias Zaracho

As per Doble Amarilla (h/t Leeds Live), Leeds United are interested in signing Racing Club midfielder Matias Zaracho in the summer.

Zaracho, 22, is a product of Racing Club’s youth system in Argentina. After impressing with the youth sides, he was promoted to the club’s senior team in the summer of 2017. Since then, he has established himself as an integral member of the squad and played a key role in the club’s Superliga-winning campaign last season.

His impressive performance also earned him a call up to the Argentine national squad as he made his debut in March 2019. Zaracho has also attracted interest from several other clubs in Europe and AC Milan are also known to be keen on securing his services, as per the report. The youngster has already made 91 appearances for his side and is one of the young talents in his country.

Zaracho could be a future replacement for Pablo Hernandez

At the moment, the Whites have just one attacking midfielder in their ranks – Pablo Hernandez. Since his arrival at Elland Road, the Spaniard has been in sensational form and has been the key person in creating their play. Last season, he finished with 12 goals and 12 assists in 39 league games and has continued the same good form into this season, scoring and assisting 6 times each.

However, Hernandez is already 35 and is reaching the twilight of his career. The former Valencia man has just two more years left on his contract with the club. Thus, signing an attacking midfielder would be a wise decision by the Whites.

In that regard, Racing Club’s Zaracho would be a viable option. The Argentine international has been consistent for his side since making his senior debut three years ago. Last season, he finished with 3 goals and 3 assists in 23 league games. This term, he racked up 4 goals and 1 assist and helped his side to 4th position in the Superliga table.

The 22-year-old’s numbers may not be the best but he could develop himself under Bielsa. He has a lot of room for development and by the time Hernandez steps down, Zaracho could improve himself at Elland Road and go on to become a key figure in the future.

Verdict

With Hernandez ageing and the lack of numbers in the attacking midfield role, Leeds are in dire need of creative players in the squad. And Zaracho could be a possible replacement for the Spaniard.

He could also provide them with some much-needed goals. And given his recent form, he could go on to represent them in the long run. Thus, the Whites should sign the Argentine at the earliest.
