Why Jose Mourinho must convince Harry Kane to stay with Tottenham
As per The Telegraph, Harry Kane would consider leaving Tottenham at the end of the season if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Tottenham have been inconsistent throughout the season. Their slow start to the campaign resulted in Mauricio Pochettino getting sacked. However, they got off to a brilliant start under Jose Mourinho but have failed miserably in the last two months.
The losses to Southampton and Liverpool in early January combined with the recent back-to-back losses to Chelsea and Wolves sees them occupy 8th place in the table.
With the season almost nearing its end, it is slowly becoming impossible for the North Londoners to finish at a higher position and this could sound dangerous for Mourinho’s side.
Though the Lilywhites have scored 47 goals in the league, they have been reliant on their star striker Harry Kane. He had scored 11 goals in the league before the injury forced him out of action. And no other player has scored 10 or more goals yet.
It is clear that the £200,000-a-week Englishman is the most-depended upon. He has been leading the team brilliantly for the last few years and has saved the team on several occasions.
After the 26-year-old’s injury, Mourinho tried to settle the attacking unit with Lucas Moura as the lone striker but the Brazilian has failed to deliver. The Brazilian has failed to score in the last 11 league games. Dele Alli has also not been up to the mark and youngster Troy Parrott cannot be depended upon as he is just 18.
Thus, to compete at a higher level in the new campaign, Mourinho must do everything to convince Harry Kane to stay.
The English international has scored 181 goals for Spurs so far in 278 appearances. He is one of the most-experienced campaigners within the team and his leadership qualities have been top-notch for both Tottenham and England.
Kane has scored more than 15 goals in the league in each of the last 5 campaigns and if he moves on, the Lilywhites’ goal count would drastically reduce. Son Hueng-Min and Moura haven’t been able to score frequently and it would be difficult for the manager to sign a prolific goalscorer as Kane from elsewhere.

Seven games prior to Kane’s injury, Tottenham had scored 15 goals in the league but that has been reduced to 11 in the same number of games since his absence. This clearly indicates the importance of the 26-year-old to the team.
Therefore, Mourinho should do everything possible and convince the World Cup Golden Boot winner to stay at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium for the next season.
