Why Jordan Larsson would be a useful signing for Celtic
Speaking to RT Sport (h/t Glasgow Live), Spartak Moscow striker Jordan Larsson, the son of former Celtic star Henrik Larsson, has admitted that it would be a dream come true for him to emulate the exploits of his father at Parkhead.
The 23-year-old has been in sensational form in Russia this season, although the report doesn’t mention whether or not Celtic are pursuing an interest in the Swedish international.

Jordan Larsson started his professional career at Hogaborgs BK in the Swedish fourth-tier before establishing himself at Helsingborgs IF in the top-flight. He went on to register 18 goals and 12 assists in 75 games for the club over three seasons. The striker’s rise to prominence in his homeland paved the way for the switch to the Dutch Eredivisie with NEC Nijmegen in January 2017.
However, Larsson failed to score during the second half of the campaign as Nijmegen suffered relegation to the second-tier. He returned to Sweden with IFK Norrkoping in January 2018 and went on to score 13 times in 46 games before sealing a €4million move to Spartak Moscow last summer.
Having bagged 10 goals in 30 appearances for Spartak in all competitions last term, Larsson has enjoyed a stunning start to the 2020-21 campaign. The 5-cap Swedish international has amassed an impressive 8 goals and 4 assists in 19 appearances for the club in the Russian Premier League so far.
Larsson looks capable of doing a job for Celtic
Celtic currently have Odsonne Edouard as the spearhead of their attack, with Patryk Klimala, Leigh Griffiths and Albian Ajeti providing cover and competition for the Frenchman. Therefore, it would be fair to say that the Hoops aren’t really crying out for a new striker at the moment but the situation could change in the blink of an eye if Edouard ends up departing Parkhead in January or next summer.
The talismanic hitman’s latest links with Juventus and AC Milan come as a timely reminder that Celtic could find it difficult to hold on their star man if a suitable offer is put on the table. Hence, Neil Lennon would be wise enough to keep an eye on some feasible alternatives in the market.
Putting things into context, Celtic should definitely consider the case of Jordan Larsson in the coming months. The Swedish international already has strong connections to Parkhead through his legendary father and has made significant improvements to his game at Spartak Moscow.

Verdict
It goes without saying that a potential exit for Edouard would force Celtic to scour the market for a new No.9. The fact that Jordan Larsson has expressed his desire to play for the club in the future should prompt the Hoops to start keeping a close eye on his performances in Russia. The Spartak striker still needs to do a lot to reach the same heights as his father but certainly has a lot of room for development at 23.
