Why Jonathan Ikone would be a fantastic fit at Tottenham

As per Get Football News France (h/t Football.london), Tottenham have enquired over the signing of Lille star Jonathan Ikone in the summer.

Ikone, 22, spent 6 years at the academy of AS Bondy before joining Paris Saint-Germain’s youth ranks in 2010. Though he succeeded with the French giants’ youth system, he could not claim a spot for himself in the senior team and was sent on two different loan spells to Montpellier to boost his confidence.

After his loan spell ended, Lille signed him in the summer of 2018. And since then, the young attacking midfielder has been brilliant. He has established himself as one of the key players in Lille’s squad and his impressive performances have also attracted the attention of Newcastle United, as per the report.

Ikone could add depth to Tottenham’s attack

At the moment, Tottenham have only one attacking midfielder in Dele Alli. The English ace has been inconsistent throughout the campaign and has missed several games either through injury or by suspension. He has managed to rack up 8 goals and 4 assists. However, signing another creative player in the summer would be a huge boost to the squad.

In that regard, Ikone would be a viable option for the club. The Frenchman, despite struggling earlier in his career, has managed to be consistent in the past two years. He racked up 3 goals and 10 assists in the last season and continued with the fine form into this term with 3 goals and 6 assists in 28 league games.

His inclusion to Mourinho’s squad would definitely add depth to their creative department, whilst also bringing in healthy competition to Alli. He could also go on to represent them in the long run if he is able to develop himself under the guidance of Mourinho and continue with the good form.

Verdict

With Alli’s inconsistency, it is clear that Tottenham are in need of creative players upfront and Ikone could be a crucial addition to the squad. He is just 22 and has a lot of room for development. Thus, Tottenham should manage to lure the French U21 international to North London this summer.
