Why Huddersfield Town should return for Rolando Aarons in January

According to The 72 (h/t The Star), Huddersfield have been tipped to sign Rolando Aarons in the January transfer window. The winger was a target for the club in the summer but the deal collapsed before the deadline.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Rolando Aarons started his footballing education at Bristol City before joining Newcastle United’s youth system in 2012. He burst on to the scene as a promising teenager in the Premier League back during the 2014-15 season but has been limited to just 27 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies.

Aarons has spent time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Wycombe Wanderers in the Football League, as well as at Motherwell, Slovan Liberec, and Hellas Verona elsewhere in Europe. The left-footed winger, though, has hardly made a positive impression on his loan spells and currently has less than 100 senior appearances under his belt.

The Englishman has had to play for the Newcastle U-23s and he has just made 27 appearances for the Magpies, scoring four goals and assisting three more (source – Transfermarkt). So far, he has played just 5 games for the England U-20s side.

Rolando Aarons could be a good addition to the Terriers attack

Ever since their relegation in 2019, Huddersfield have struggled to climb back up to the Premier League. Even this season, the club are languishing in 13th place and a promotion push can pretty much be ruled out.

The club have had difficulty in producing goals as they have only scored 12 in 11 games, while having a negative goal difference. It looks necessary at this point that the club should dip into the January market to galvanise their attack at least.

Newcastle’s Rolando Aarons could be an option they should look into. The winger is out of favour at St. James’ Park and is playing for the U-23s side currently. Quite what Newcastle have in mind for the young winger is anyone’s guess but with Huddersfield interested in him, the Magpies should sanction a transfer.

Aarons is a very versatile player who can slot in at left or right-wing. The 25-year-old is a natural left-winger though. The winger has ample experience of playing in the Premier League, SFPL, Serie A and the Championship. Huddersfield can use a utility player like him and should return for the player in January.
