As reported by Leicestershire Live, Manchester City are set to sign Slavia Sofia midfielder Filip Krastev in the summer. The Bulgarian club’s chairman has claimed that an agreement is in place and the youngster has already cleared his medical

Krastev, 18, came through the ranks of Slavia Sofia’s youth system and was promoted to the club’s senior setup in the summer of 2018. Though he made his debut last season, his major breakthrough came this term. He has become a regular member for the Bulgarian outfit over the past few months.

The midfielder was impressive in the last 5 games he featured in, prior to the suspension of the games. He scored a crucial goal against Dunav and set up one for his team in the derby against Levski. His eye-catching displays have also attracted the attention of Leicester City. However, he is closing in on a move to Manchester City. (h/t Leicestershire Live)

City, meanwhile, have failed to defend their Premier League title this campaign. They have shown inconsistency on several occasions and are currently in the 2nd position in the league table, 23 points behind leaders Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola’s men haven’t been dominant as they were in the previous title-winning campaigns. However, with the season coming to its business end, the manager should look to strengthen the squad for the future. And investing in youth would be a wise decision.

Krastev – A future star in City’s midfield

The Cityzens have a plethora of midfield talents in Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Phil Foden, Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri and Fernandinho. All of them have endured a decent campaign so far. But Silva, who has spent almost ten years with the English outfit will be on his way out when his contract expires this summer.

While Rodri, Fernandinho and Gundogan are defensive midfielders, it would be wise for City to bring in young attack-minded midfielders for the future. In that regard, signing Krastev would be a good move by the club.
