Why Everton should offer fresh terms to Jonjoe Kenny

According to Liverpool Echo, Everton are set to hold future talks with Jonjoe Kenny, who currently plies his trade in Germany with Schalke on loan.

Kenny, 22, came through the youth ranks of Everton and was sent on loan spells Wigan Athletic and Oxford United earlier to develop himself. He was promoted to the Toffees’ first-team back in 2017 but he could claim a spot in the team. Last summer, he was sent on loan to Schalke to get enough game time.

He has been in fine form for the German outfit and has featured in all but two league games, helping the side reach the 6th position in the Bundesliga. In 22 games, Kenny has racked up one goal and two assists and has become a key member under David Wagner.

Meanwhile, Everton have managed to do better in the second half of the campaign after the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti. They are currently 11th in the league standings after an unfortunate 1-1 draw against Manchester United last weekend.

Despite their decent performance, the Toffees have been inconsistent and the manager needs to bring in some changes. One of the key areas where Ancelotti should prioritize strengthening is the right-back position.

Seamus Coleman and Djibril Sidibe are the only two right-backs available at the manager’s disposal. Sidibe is on loan from Monaco with an option for the Toffees to buy him back, there is still no news of his permanent move to England and Coleman has just two years left in his contract at Goodison Park. And he has touched 30 already.

With a view to forming a formidable team, the manager should bring back Kenny before the start of the new campaign to add depth and quality to the squad.

The 22-year-old is young and has proved his worth in Germany. He has improved with regular game time and could be a replacement for Coleman, who has lost his place to the World Cup winner.

Predominantly a right-back, Kenny is capable of playing in the central defence and his inclusion in the squad would give the Toffees boss various options to choose from. The Englishman is young, energetic and has the ability to take his game to the next level.
