Why Everton should make a move for Solly March

According to 90min (h/t Burnley Express), Everton are interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion star Solly March in the summer.

March, 26, spent time at the academy of Lewes FC and joined Brighton’s youth system in 2011. His impressive performances earned him promotion to the senior set-up in the summer of 2013 and he made his breakthrough that season in the Championship.

Since then, he has been a regular member of the squad and played a key role in the Seagulls’ promotion to the top-flight. The Englishman was in fine form last season but has seen limited game time this term.

His impressive performances have attracted the attention of Newcastle United and Leeds United, as per the report. And also, Brighton are looking to tie him down to a new contract. Thus, Everton should attempt to sign him at the earliest.

March could add depth to Everton’s midfield

At the moment, Everton have only three attack-minded midfielders in their ranks. Tom Davies started off well last season but his performances this term haven’t been up to the mark. He managed to contribute with just 1 assist in 30 games.

Portuguese ace Andre Gomes looked to take over in the middle of the park but he fell victim to a major injury and was out for the majority of the 2019/20 season. And Beni Baningime didn’t feature in a single league game this term. Thus, with a lack of quality being clearly visible, they need to bring in midfielders to their squad.

In that regard, March would be a sensible signing for the Merseyside club. Last season, he did a decent job for the Seagulls, providing 6 assists but couldn’t progress this term due to a lack of opportunities. He is just 26 and has a lot more to offer in the future if he is given the right amount of opportunities.

His inclusion would definitely add depth to Ancelotti’s squad, whilst also bringing healthy competition. He could be a crucial player for the Toffees next season if he is able to replicate the same form he showed last season.

He could make an impact for the Toffees. Thus, they should manage to lure him to Goodison Park at the earliest.
