Why Everton should keep hold of Moise Kean amidst interest from Roma

According to Liverpool Echo, Roma are one of the several clubs interested in signing Everton forward Moise Kean in the summer.

Kean, 19, came through the youth ranks of Torino and Juventus before making his appearance in Serie A for the latter last season. Though he didn’t have enough game time, he managed to score 6 goals in 13 league games and was touted to become an instant hit.

However, the £25.1m move to Everton didn’t help his cause as he had failed to make the cut at Goodison Park. The youngster has managed a paltry 1 goal and two assists so far.

Meanwhile, the Toffees have endured a mixed second half of the campaign after Carlo Ancelotti arrived. They started with a bang but lost their track towards the end before the league got suspended. They have slipped to 12th position in the league after failing to win any of their last three games.

Despite their inconsistency, forwards Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been brilliant. The duo has managed to score at a decent rate but the same cannot be said of their backups. Oumar Niasse has failed to make more than 3 appearances in the league and his contract comes to an end in the summer.

Everton signed Cenk Tosun on loan to bolster their attacking ranks but the Turkish international has returned after picking up a season-ending injury. This has left the manager with just Moise Kean as a backup.

Therefore, it would be wise to keep hold of the former Juventus forward and take a chance with him next season.

The 20-year-old has the ability to play at a higher level but needs to adapt to the conditions of the Premier League. He has shown signs of promises in the last few games and could be crucial for Ancelotti in the new season if the manager wishes to change his strategy.

Predominantly a centre-forward, Kean is also capable of playing on either side of the frontline and his versatility could be made use of by the manager. He has shown his goalscoring prowess with Juventus last term and can become effective when he has experience.

With Niasse’s time coming to an end with Everton and Tosun out of action for a long time, they must keep hold of the Italy international to act as a deputy to the first-choice strikers.

Verdict

Everton need to keep hold of their players for the new season and letting Kean leave in the summer would leave them with limited options up front. The youngster can be used regularly to give them the much-needed depth and it would also help them in case Calvert-Lewin or Richarlison gets injured.

Therefore, the Toffees need to keep hold of the 19-year-old for as long as possible and given his tender age, he can represent them in the long run when he gets the confidence.
