Why Dejan Ljubicic to Rangers would bolster their midfield

According to Daily Mail, Rangers are interested in signing Rapid Vienna midfielder Dejan Ljubicic in the summer transfer window.

Having spent the initial days of his youth career with Favoritner AC, Ljubicic, 22, joined Vienna’s youth system in 2006. His major breakthrough came in the 2017/18 season after he spent a month with Wiener Neustadt on loan.

Since then, he has been a regular member of the squad and has excelled despite being just 22. In a short span, the midfielder has already made 100 appearances for the Austrian outfit, scoring seven goals and providing 4 assists.

His impressive performances have also garnered the attention of several clubs including Championship side Brentford, who are lining up a move for Ljubicic, as per the report. Southampton and Celtic are keen on the youngster, as per the report.

Rangers, meanwhile, once again failed in their bid to win trophies under Steven Gerrard for the last two years. They haven’t been able to stop Celtic’s dominance in the league despite having a decent squad. And they need to get back to their best to stop their rivals from progressing further. And the Gers need to bring in reinforcements if they are to have a shot at glory in the next season.

Ljubicic could add depth to Rangers’ midfield

At the moment, the Gers have just one defensive midfielder in their ranks in Glen Kamara. Though the Finnish international had made 19 appearances this term, he has lacked consistency. He was even left out of the squad on several occasions in the last few weeks prior to the suspension of the games.

Apart from him, there is no one available at the manager’s disposal to operate from a deep-lying position. Thus, bringing in a defensive midfielder would be a wise decision by the club moving forward.

In that regard, Ljubicic would be a suitable option for the club. The Austrian has featured in 22 games this term, racking up 2 goals and 2 assists and has shown his immense potential. He also has some experience at a higher level and could be a good addition to Gerrard’s squad.

Moreover, he is just 22 and can develop himself under the guidance of the English tactician. He would provide the Gers with some much-needed depth, whilst also bringing in healthy competition for Kamara in the next season. He is also capable of playing as a central defender and his versatility would come in handy for the manager.

At 22, Ljubicic has a huge future ahead of him and with Rangers, he can excel further in his career. And, at the same time, the Scottish giants would have a future leader in their midfield. Thus, they should attempt to lure Ljubicic to Ibrox this summer.
