Why Crystal Palace are right in pursuing a deal for West Brom’s Nathan Ferguson

Nathan Ferguson is expected to join Crystal Palace after his contract expires, according to Sky Sports. The 19-year-old has so far impressed at right-back for West Brom this season as they look to make a Premier League return.

Ferguson has been imposing for the Baggies in his maiden season and has been vital in Slaven Bilic’s plans as they currently sit 2nd in the Championship table with a firm eye on automatic promotion.

Do Crystal Palace need him?

The Eagles definitely have an issue to solve at the back, with most of their defenders ageing and past their thirties. Ferguson’s ability to play at right-back, centre-back as well as at left-back is something that Crystal Palace need.

The teenager’s arrival can be a great addition to the Palace defence, with the player having already impressed with his displays.

The Crystal Palace defence does require a fresh face and the youngster’s ability and versatility could be a good boost. Since the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Crystal Palace have utilized and rotated between Martin Kelly and Joel Ward, with both not impressing enough to cement a permanent place.

Nathan Ferguson has shown the potential to be someone who can start week in and week out and quickly make an impact. The 19-year-old has an entire career ahead of him and this can be a great buy for Crystal Place.

The player’s contract expires soon and this means Palace can bring the young defender to Selhurst Park for almost nothing. Under an experienced coach like Roy Hodgson, Nathan Ferguson can grow into a better player.

The England Under-20 starlet has already showcased a level of maturity and this addition will certainly bring quality to the Palace back-line. The young English talent is someone who Palace definitely need to aid their ageing back-line.

Just one season might be too early to make a call but the player has so far shown that he is strong, quick and can adapt well to the requirements of the Premier League.

Thus, the player will be a great addition at Selhurst Park and Crystal Palace are right in pursuing a deal for the defender.
