Why Colin Dagba to Everton would boost their defence

As per Le10 Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Colin Dagba in the summer transfer window.

Dagba, 21, rose through the ranks of Boulogne’s youth system and joined PSG’s B team in the summer of 2016. He made a breakthrough with the French giants’ senior setup last season and received a handful of games the last two campaigns. He has been used as an understudy for the senior right-backs in the squad.

However, the youngster has shown huge potential whenever he was called upon and his performances have attracted interest from Everton, as per the report. Thus, they should make a move for Dagba, who could solve their right-back issues.

Everton, meanwhile, have endured a disappointing campaign so far. Though they did well when Carlo Ancelotti arrived, the results didn’t last long.

However, they seem to have regrouped as they have collected four points from two games after the restart of the season. And with signs showing their improvements, it would be wise if the manager brings in reinforcements in the summer in order to add depth to the squad.

Dagba could solve Everton’s right-back issues

One of the major concerns for the manager would be of their backline. The central defence has not been up to the mark, conceding 46 goals so far and they have limited full-back options. Seamus Coleman and Djibril Sidibe are the only two right-backs available at the manager’s disposal.

The French World Cup winner is on loan from Monaco and will return to Ligue 1 when his contract comes to an end in the summer. And Coleman has had to cope with injury problems. Thus, a right-back is a must in the summer.

In that regard, PSG’s Dagba would be a viable option for the club. The Frenchman has made 37 first-team appearances for his club so far, producing three assists. And while his numbers may not among the bests he has shown the potential to do well if he is given the right opportunity.

The French U21 international would be a valuable addition to Ancelotti’s squad if he is able to continue with the form he has shown in the few opportunities he received. He would also add much-needed depth at right-back, which would be a great boost for the Toffees.

Verdict

At 21, Dagba has a big future ahead of him. Under the guidance of Ancelotti, he can grow into a key player for Everton, who are in dire need of a right-back for the future. His inclusion would also bring in a healthy competition within the squad. Thus, the Toffees should attempt to lure the youngster to Goodison Park in the summer.
