Why Ciro Immobile to Everton would be a fantastic move

According to 90min.com (h/t The Express), Everton are interested in signing Lazio forward Ciro Immobile in the summer to bolster their attacking unit.

Immobile, 30, came through the ranks of Salernitana and Juventus’ youth system and played for several clubs including Torino, Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla. Since joining Lazio in 2016, he has been a vital cog for the Serie A outfit.

He has helped Lazio lift the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup twice and has also been in sensational form this season, guiding them to 2nd position in the league table, just one point behind leaders Juventus.

His impressive performances have also earned him a recall to the Italian national team for the European Qualifiers.

Meanwhile, the Toffees have seen a slight dip in form after failing to win any of their last three league games. They are currently 12th in the league table and would be hoping to do better in the rest of the campaign to finish at a respectable position.

Everton’s attack has been lively in the latter stages with the likes of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin doing an incredible job up front. They have managed to score 37 goals so far, which is not up to the standards of the Premier League.

Other forwards in the ranks – Moise Kean and Oumar Niasse haven’t been supportive enough to the squad. Cenk Tosun was signed on loan in January but the Turkey international is restricted to the sidelines for the rest of the season. This has left the manager with only two forwards to lead the line.

Therefore, they should add depth in their squad and going for Immobile in the summer transfer window would be a brilliant option for the club.

The 30-year-old is in a fine run of form, racking up 27 league goals in 26 games. He is the leading scorer in Serie A this term and has scored nearly half of the team’s goals. He could be a crucial player for Everton in helping them push for a European spot.

A centre-forward by trade, Immobile has been scoring at a decent rate in the last few seasons. He has managed to notch up 15 or more goals in the league for the past four seasons and doesn’t seem to slow down despite ageing.

The Italian international would be a huge boost for Everton and could be the perfect partner for Calvert-Lewin upfront, allowing Richarlison to move to his favoured left-wing position. Immobile’s inclusion in the squad could get them the much-needed extra goals.

Verdict

The former Torino man is a proven goalscorer in Italy’s top-flight and still has the legs to play at a higher level. Everton are in dire need of forwards at the moment and he could certainly bring quality to the Toffees squad. Hence, making a move for Immobile in the summer would be the right decision by Ancelotti.
