Why Chelsea should sign Mohamed Sankoh for the future

According to Goal (h/t Leeds Live), Chelsea have held talks over a possible move for Stoke City starlet Mohamed Sankoh.

Sankoh, 16, came through the ranks of Sparta Rotterdam’s youth and joined Stoke’s U18 side in September 2018. Though he has not featured in as many games, the youngster has made use of the opportunities he has received.

The teenage sensation has so far racked up 9 goals and 10 assists for the U18 side and his eye-catching displays have attracted the attention of Chelsea, as per the report.

Meanwhile, the Blues have done a decent job so far with the youngsters in the squad despite Frank Lampard having to do with injuries to several key players. The manager has given a lot of opportunities to the young guns in the team this term.

The likes of Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Kurt Zouma, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori have all enjoyed their fair share of games under the English tactician. And it is clear that the manager has trusted the youngsters and is building a team around them.

English striker Abraham has been on top of his game, scoring 13 goals in the league before he got injured and the rest of them have done their part. Mount has also enjoyed a brilliant season and adding youngsters to the squad would be of great help in the future.

In that regard, Dutch starlet Sankoh would be a great addition to the side. He can be groomed from the youth levels at Chelsea if he joins. Given the Blues’ lack of quality options in the centre-forward position, they should make a move for the Stoke City teenager.

Sankoh is a talented teenager and has already made 3 appearances for the Netherlands U17 since his debut in March 2019. He has been in fine form for the Potters’ U18 side and has a huge future ahead of him. Thus, Chelsea should make use of the opportunity to sign him at the earliest.

Verdict

Signing the Dutch teenager would help Chelsea in the future when he is groomed into a first-team member. He could be used as a backup for Abraham and has all the qualities to succeed if he is able to replicate the form he has shown so far. Thus, the Blues should lure him to Stamford Bridge as early as possible.
