Why Celtic should revive their interest in David Turnbull

Last summer, The Sun suggested that Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull was confident of a moving to Celtic despite a glitch in his medical. However, a deal didn’t materialize and the youngster stayed put at Fir Park.

Turnbull, 20, came through the ranks of Motherwell’s youth system and broke into the club’s first-team even before getting promoted to the senior setup this term. He was a regular member of the squad last term but unfortunately, a knee injury kept him out of action for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign.

The Scottish youngster was impressive last season and had returned to action after a long lay-off before the season got suspended. He is one of the most exciting young talents in the country and thus, Celtic should make a move for him in the summer.

The Hoops, meanwhile, have dominated the Scottish Premiership once again as they managed to lift the league title for the 9th time in a row. Neil Lennon’s men were brilliant throughout the campaign.

However, the manager needs to bring in reinforcements to the squad if they are to challenge for the 10th title in a row. They need to add depth to the squad and by doing so, they could also progress in the near future.

Turnbull – A future replacement for Scott Brown at Celtic

Celtic have a plethora of midfield talents in Olivier Ntcham, Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor, Scott Brown and James Forrest as the forward-thinking midfielders. They have been at their best so far and have been reliable.

However, the manager needs to add some new faces to the squad since Brown is already 35 and at the twilight of his career. Jonny Hayes also left for Aberdeen earlier and youngster Kundai Benyu hasn’t featured regularly this term. Thus, making a move for Motherwell’s Turnbull would be a good move for the future.

Turnbull is one of the upcoming talents in the country and was instrumental in helping Motherwell finish 8th in the league table last season. He scored 9 goals and 5 assists and ended as the club’s highest scorer and assist provider, which is no mean feat for a 20-year-old.

The Scottish U20 international would be a valuable addition for the Hoops if he is able to continue with the same form after his injury lay-off. He has shown his ability and could be a player for them in the long run.
