Why Burnley should not let go of manager Sean Dyche

According to Daily Mail, manager Sean Dyche is considering leaving Burnley at the end of the season.

The report claims that Dyche has been frustrated by the club’s failure to agree on contract extensions for several senior players this summer. Also, Dyche’s relationship with chairman Mike Garlick seems to have deteriorated in recent weeks after the club informed him that only a little money will be offered for new signings.

Dyche still has two years left on his current contract, which if he chooses to complete would see him spend 10 years at Turf Moor. The current situation at Burnley, however, paints a different picture that could see him walk away prematurely.

Meanwhile, rival Premier League clubs such as Crystal Palace and West Ham have both been linked with the 48-year-old in the past after witnessing his success at Burnley. Most recently, Bournemouth and Aston Villa had also expressed an interest in Dyche this summer.

Despite, that it seems hugely unlikely that Dyche would leave Turf Moor as it would cost Burnley £3million in compensation, especially in such tiring times where the club has been hit hard by the coronavirus crisis.

Dyche has changed Burnley into a top-flight side over the years

Meanwhile, Dyche still remains Burnley’s most successful manager in recent times, having led them to two promotions to the Premier League. Dyche joined Burnley, replacing former boss Eddie Howe in October 2012 while they were competing in the Championship.

Almost in a year’s time, Dyche was awarded the Championship manager of the month in September 2013, after leading them to their best start to a season since they were founded in 1882. His first and major achievement with Burnley was helping them win promotion to the Premier League after a four-year absence, in the 2013-14 season.

Dyche’s instant success of taking them to the top-flight in just his second season, however, did not stay long. They were soon relegated after spending just one season in the top division. That was not the end of the road for Dyche as he bounced back even stronger by winning the Championship in the 2015-16 season, leading them to the Premier League for a second time.

His next big success came when he helped them gain Europa League qualification by finishing an impressive 7th in his second season after achieving promotion into the top-flight.

In fact, this was the Clarets’ best finish in the Premier League since a sixth-place finish back in 1974. They ended 15th last season and are currently 8th in the table, making it evident that Dyche has a knack of overcoming failures.

Having improved the side drastically during his time at Turf Moor, losing a manager like Dyche would be detrimental to the club’s progress. Hence, Burnley should do their best to retain him if they wish to improve over the years and stay in the top-flight.

Verdict

From a Championship side, Dyche has played a huge role in changing them into top-flight regulars since taking over at Turf Moor. Though results have not been instant, he has gradually improved the side over the years. Moreover, Burnley not one of the most financially sound clubs in the top-flight. Hence, Burnley would be at a clear loss by losing a manager like Dyche.
