Why Aston Villa should return for Odsonne Edouard in January

According to Birmingham Live, Aston Villa could look to revisit their interest in Odsonne Edouard in January. The Villans want to sign another striker due to Wesley’s long-term injury and to add cover for new signing, Ollie Watkins. Keinan Davis is currently the only option there to play as a forward but he has featured in just a few games this season.

The 22-year-old French forward started out his youth career at Paris St. Germain in 2011. He quickly climbed up through the youth levels to be promoted to the senior side in 2016.

However, he was immediately sent on loan to Toulouse, where he struggled for game time and made only 17 appearances. On his return, he was again sent on loan, this time at Celtic. The Scottish side were impressed with his performances and decided to make the deal permanent the following season. Edouard moved to Celtic without featuring even once for PSG.

At Celtic, he has developed into one the most prolific forwards with 69 goals and 33 assists in just 145 games (source – Transfermarkt). He has been a regular in the France youth teams and is currently a part of the U-21s with 11 goals in 6 games.

Edouard would add quality and depth to Aston Villa’s attack

Dean Smith’s side have enjoyed a good start to the season having won 5 of their 9 games so far. They look in much better shape than last season and that is very much due to the recruitment done in the summer. The new arrivals of Ollie Watkins and Ross Barkley have contributed to the club’s success so far.

Problem is that there is no quality cover or competition for Ollie Watkins. Keinan Davis hasn’t done much to make his case while Wesley is likely to return at the start of next year. With the festive period approaching, fixtures are going to come thick and fast. With Watkins playing all of their games this season, it does not bode well.

Adding someone like Odsonne Edouard can ease Dean Smith’s problem to a huge extent in that area. The Celtic man has been in red hot form since joining the club and has even kept going this season. He could be a fine addition to the side and be a huge boost for them. The club should definitely return for the forward in January.
