Why Arturo Vidal to Newcastle United would be a boost to their midfield

According to Daily Mail, Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal is open to a move to Newcastle United in the summer.

Vidal, 32, has established himself as one of the top midfielders in Europe after playing for several big clubs including Bayern Munich and Juventus. He has made 529 career appearances which spans across 5 different teams and is one of the most experienced players still to be playing at the highest level.

He has had a trophy-laden career at club level and has also won the Copa America title twice with Chile, whilst making 115 appearances for the South American nation. Thus, Newcastle should lure him in the summer.

The Magpies have endured a disastrous second half of the campaign as they failed to stay within the top half of the league table. Steve Bruce’s side have fallen to 13th position in the league after failing to win any of their last three league games.

Despite signing Nabil Bentaleb and Valentino Lazaro to strengthen their midfield, the Magpies have been inconsistent. Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Ritchie and Sean Longstaff are the only other three forward-thinking midfielders available at the manager’s disposal.

However, in order to improve their performance next season, Newcastle should bring in some fresh faces to their squad and Arturo Vidal would be a good choice for the club.

In his entire career, Vidal has played for elite clubs and has won several trophies with them. Currently in La Liga, he has been a part of the squad that has won 18 out of 27 league games and the Chilean has featured in 22 of them.

The Chile international has also helped his sides with a handful of goals in the past few years, contributing with 6 goals and 3 assists in 31 games this term for Barcelona. He would be a valuable addition to Newcastle United if he joins them in the summer.

With his experience, the former Juventus man could be a leader for the Magpies in the middle of the park. At 33, Vidal is still at the top of his game and he would undoubtedly add the much-needed depth to the squad.

Verdict

With Bentaleb and Lazaro only on loan at the club, it would be wise of the manager to bring in an experienced player to take charge in the middle. And Vidal could do them good for a few more years. Thus, Newcastle should bring the former Bayern Munich man to St. James’ Park in the summer.
