Why Arsenal should revive their interest in Myron Boadu

Back in April, Voetbal4u (h/t Football.london) suggested that Arsenal were keen on signing AZ Alkmaar starlet Myron Boadu in the summer. However, there has been no development in such talks since then.

Boadu, 19, spent time at the academy of Buitenveldert before joining Alkmaar’s youth system in the summer of 2013. Having impressed with Alkmaar’s U19 and U21 squads, he was handed his debut in May 2018 after recovering from an ankle injury.

However, his progress was hampered again due to a long-term injury last season. But the teenager overcame all that to establish himself as a regular member for the Dutch outfit this term.

The one-cap Netherlands international has been in sensational form this season. His impressive performance also attracted the attention of Italian giants AC Milan, as per the report. And Boadu is valued at £17.5m by his club.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have been inconsistent throughout the campaign despite Mikel Arteta bringing in some positivity within the squad.

The manager will now have the opportunity to form a team according to his plans and for that he needs to bring in reinforcements in the summer. Arteta should make sure he has the best combination of players before entering into the next campaign.

Boadu could be a leader in Arsenal’s attack in the future

Though the Gunners’ defensive unit has performed below expectations, their attacking unit has done a decent job. At the moment, they have three centre-forwards in their ranks. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been in red-hot form and is the key player in the squad. But his future with the club remains uncertain.

Alexandre Lacazette has not been up to the mark and has failed to deliver in needed situations. And the manager was forced to turn towards young Eddie Nketiah. However, they will need to bring in strikers with a view for the future as nothing can be said about Aubameyang’s future, while Lacazette has also been linked with a move away.

And if both of them leave, Arsenal’s numbers would be reduced. Thus, they should be ready for the future by bringing in a young striker in the summer.

In that regard, Boadu would be a fantastic addition for the future. The Dutchman has led the line brilliantly despite his tender age and finished as both the top scorer and the top assist provider for his club this term with 20 goals and 13 assists in 39 games across all competitions.

He has already shown immense qualities and still has a lot of room for development. He can develop himself Arteta and is capable of leading the Gunners in the future if he is able to replicate the same form. He would also bring in healthy competition to Nketiah and would add further depth to the squad.

Verdict

With Aubameyang’s future uncertain and Lacazette’s ineffectiveness, it would be wise if they bring in a striker for the future. And Boadu has all the attributes to succeed at a higher level. Thus, Arsenal should reignite their interest in the Dutch teenager and attempt to lure him to North London this summer.
