Why Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin would be a terrific addition for Tottenham

The Daily Mail (h/t Express) has reported that Tottenham could add more firepower to their attack by signing Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin. They are interested in a swap deal for the player. Saint-Maximin has been amongst Newcastle’s best players this season by a large margin, scoring four goals and assisting seven.

The Frenchman has matched the demands on the Premier League with his incredible pace and skills. At just 23, he has a long way to go.

Tottenham aren’t in a very good position in the league and have gone years without a trophy. Their best chance for silverware came last season in the Champions League where they lost to Liverpool in the final.

Would Allan Saint-Maximin be a useful addition?

Tottenham have largely relied on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min for firepower and an addition like Allan Saint-Maximin would mean more strength to the attack.

Moura and Lamela haven’t featured quite often and their performances haven’t been consistent enough to keep them in the playing XI every week.

Thus, the onus will be on Jose Mourinho to bring in reinforcements and Allan Saint-Maximin is among the players who would be a viable option to Tottenham’s lack of depth on the flanks.

The addition of Allan Saint-Maximin would increase the bench strength at Tottenham while also bring in more added quality to the squad.

In Saint-Maximin, Spurs can find a winger who is comfortable playing on either flank. The player has been a bright spot in Newcastle’s attack. His numbers from the season might not match that of his from his days at OGC Nice but he has it all to establish himself at a higher level.

Verdict

The lack of depth in the attack when Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were sidelined was there for everyone to see. And someone like Allan Saint-Maximin, who has shown immense potential, would be the right candidate for Tottenham as Mourinho would be able to develop him.

And Tottenham have always been a club that has given opportunities to young players and this could attract the youngster. The player is just 23 and could also represent them in the long run. He can offer Mourinho a fantastic option in the attack. Thus, the North London outfit should go behind in an attempt to pursue the player in the summer.
