Why Abdul Mumin to Sheffield United would bolster their defence

According to Daily Mail, Sheffield United are considering a move for FC Nordsjaelland defender Abdul Mumin in the summer.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks of Right to Dream academy in Ghana and joined Nordsjaelland’s U19 side in the summer of 2016. A year later, he was promoted to the club’s senior set-up but failed to make the cut regularly. He was immediately sent of loan to HB Koge, where he developed with game time and returned to his parent club in the summer of 2018.

He has been impressive in the Superligaen throughout the campaign and has attracted a lot of interest from several clubs in Europe. Brighton and Hove Albion, Celtic, Club Brugge and Genk are some of the clubs interested in him, as per the report. And he is set to move once his contract expires this summer as the youngster has opted against extending his deal.

Mumin could be a good addition to Sheffield United

One area the manager needs to focus on strengthening is the backline. The Blades have three main central defenders. Jack O’Connell, John Egan and Chris Basham have been regular starters in Wilder’s three-man central defence throughout the campaign. However, O’Connell has been absent in the last four games since the restart.

Other two defenders, Phil Jagielka and Kean Bryan have just returned from their respective loan spells. But Jagielka is already 37 and the manager should bring in a replacement. Bringing in a defender would also help them improve the depth in the backline. Thus, a centre-back is a must in the summer.

In that regard, signing Mumin from Nordsjaelland would help them secure their defence for the future. The Ghanaian has enjoyed a brilliant campaign so far, featuring in 22 games for the Danish outfit. He has also helped them keep 6 clean sheets and has received rave reviews for his performances.

Sheffield might lose Jagielka as his contract comes to an end this summer. Basham has just one more year left in his contract at Bramall Lane. Thus, they should make a move for Mumin, who is just 22 and has a lot of room for development.

Verdict

He is just 22 and has a long way to go in his career. At the same time, the Blades’ defensive numbers could be reduced if Jagielka leaves in the summer. And Mumin could provide them with the much-needed depth at the back. Thus, Sheffield should beat the competition for the Ghanaian and lure him to Bramall Lane this summer.
