Who is Milan Borjan? All you need to know about Swansea and West Brom’s new target

According to SkySports, Championship sides West Brom, Swansea and Bristol City are considering making offers for Red Star Belgrade goalkeeper Milan Borjan. Borjan has been capped 38 times by Canada since making his debut in 2011. The 30-year-old joined Serbian side Red Star Belgrade from Bulgarian outfit Ludogorets on a free transfer last summer, signing a two-year contract.

Borjan made 46 appearances for the Super Liga side across competitions last season. He conceded only 22 goals as he helped the side to a title win. In addition to that, the Canadian shot-stopper won the Bulgarian League in his first season with Ludogorets in the 2015/16 season.

Newly-relegated Swans are in the market for a new goalkeeper after selling Lukasz Fabianski to West Ham United for a fee in the region of €7million. West Bromwich Albion, who have also gotten relegated from the Premier League, are searching for a keeper after releasing 35-year-old Boaz Myhill following an eight-year spell at The Hawthorns. Meanwhile, Bristol City have also released Luke Steele this summer and are eyeing Borjan as a potential replacement.

All the three clubs must be aware of the mammoth tasks ahead of them. Challenging for a playoff spot in the grueling Championship will be extremely difficult but to do so, they need to sign a top goalkeeper. Both Swansea and West Brom should ensure they get back to the lucrative Premier League by the end of next season.

Borjan is more than six-feet tall and his towering presence would work wonders for either of these sides. He is quite experienced as well, making him a true force to reckon with. Furthermore, Borjan has reinvented himself several times over the course of his career. And now, he should do the same in the Championship.

His portfolio boasts of league title triumphs in Bulgaria and Serbia. However, it remains to be seen if he can garner his powers to play in the Championship next season.

Borjan has made over 300 appearances for his club and country. On paper, this looks like a brilliant deal for both Swansea and West Brom. With Bristol also lurking for a move, the race is certainly heating up and the newly-relegated outfits must work fast to sign him.
