Odisseas Vlachodimos scout report – All you need to know

The January transfer window is still months away but top clubs across Europe often utilize this time to monitor younger players and then move for them once the window reopens. One player who is making a lot of headlines these days is goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos.

As claimed by Daily Express, the 24-year-old is scouted by 18 clubs which include the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

Background

Vlachodimos, 24, came through the ranks of VfB Stuttgart and made 68 appearances for the club’s reserve side. As a result, Greek side Panathinaikos signed the German youngster in January 2016. In two and a half years in Greece, the youngster made 52 appearances and proved to be rather impressive.

His magnificent display between the sticks was rewarded with a move to Benfica in the summer. And he has stood out for the Portuguese giants despite being with them for a limited time. He has started all five of Benfica’s league matches so far and has kept 3 clean sheets.

What the future holds

Since he joined Benfica only in the summer, there is no way the club will allow Vlachodimos to leave in January. To be fair, the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle United, Liverpool and Chelsea don’t have a goalkeeping crisis at hand as all of them have stable custodians to handle the area between the sticks.

But The Express has claimed that Bayern Munich are keen on bringing the German back to the country and are viewing him as a long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer.

He has been on Bayern’s radar from his Stuttgart days and after a stellar outing against the Bavarians in a recent Champions League match (h/t The Express), it looks like the club hierarchy are ready to pull all the stops in landing the talented shot-stopper.
