David Otunga is a former WWE Superstar and now a colour commentator. When was he released from the company?

David Otunga is an American actor, lawyer and former WWE Superstar. He was the runner-up on the first season of NXT. We all know about Nexus and The New Nexus and how they terrorized everyone on the roster. However, he was the only member who was present throughout the entire duration of the stable.

He was a part of the faction, which became a two-time WWE Tag Team Champion with fellow Nexus members John Cena and Michael McGillicutty. After that, Otunga signed a developmental contract with WWE and was assigned to its development territory FCW. He was on the first season of NXT with R-Truth as his storyline mentor. He made his debut on the inaugural episode of NXT.

Otunga was released from the Superstars commentary team following the 2016 lottery after the broadcast on July 22, 2016, and he was replaced by Corey Graves from Raw and NXT not. Only that Otunga was also removed from the Main Event commentary team on November 22, 2016, and was replaced by Byron Saxton from RAW.

On April 11, 2017, it was reported that Otunga was again replaced by Booker T on Raw for six weeks. However, he returned after some time and became a pre-show panellist.

David Otunga was released from wrestling back in 2015

Otunga competed in the 2013 Royal Rumble match and was eliminated by Sheamus. His last singles match was a loss to Ryback, and since then, he did only promotional work for WWE.

However, after a long time, Otunga returned on April 6, 2014, in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX and was eliminated by Big E. After that, he didn’t make any WWE appearances again until he returned to live events on January 9, 2015. His last match came against his former mentor R-Truth on July 5, 2015, on WWE Live SummerSlam Heatwave Tour.
