Most tennis stars these days have rackets exclusively designed according to their specific needs
Talent alone does not win you games in a sport like tennis wherein accessories such as rackets play a major role these days.
The size, weight, and tension of rackets vary from player to player and the major racket manufacturers have built designs that are exclusively modelled to suit the needs of the bearer.
Similarly, top tennis stars such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have been relying on their own specific rackets that have helped them to stay at the highest level all this time.
Lets now take a look into some of the rackets used by a few active tennis stars:
Roger Federer (Wilson)
Federer has across his career changed rackets on numerous occasions but the Swiss maestro currently prefers the Wilson Pro Staff RF 97. It has a head size of 97 square inches, and has a string pattern 16×19, and comes in a variety of grip sizes.
It is a pretty heavy racket and is 27 inches in length and could be trouble unless you are a pro.
Rafael Nadal (Babolat)
Spaniard Nadal uses Babolat AeroPro Drive rackets, which are lighter compared to Federer’s equipment.
It has a bigger head size at 100 square inches, however, it weighs around 320 grams.
It has a 16×19 similar string pattern of Federer but carries a tension of around 25 kgs. But sometimes the 19-time Grand Slam winner prefers lesser wight depending on the conditions and weather.
Novak Djokovic (Head)
Djokovic used to play with a Wilson racket but has now changed to sports manufacturers Head. He had been dragged away from a lucrative Wilson deal by Head and been relying on the latter ever since.
The Serb uses the Head Graphene 360 Speed Pro racquet. His racket weighs 310 grams without any strings and has a string pattern of 18×20, which is different from Federer and Nadal.
He, however, maintains a 27-28 kg tension that is much higher than the other two in the ‘Big Three’.
Dominic Thiem (Babolat)
Reigning Australian Open runner-up and World No.3 Thiem also prefers a Babolat racket like Nadal.
He, however, uses a different model – Babolat Pure Strike 2019. It weighs less than the rest of the three top players at 305 grams and has a head size of 98 square inches. The relatively light-weighted racket, however, has an 18×20 string pattern similar to that of Djokovic.
