Why West Brom must sign Britt Assombalonga from Middlesbrough

According to an exclusive report by TEAMtalk, West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Middlesbrough attacker Britt Assombalonga this summer.

The Baggies endured a terrible campaign last time out as they eventually got relegated from the Premier League. Now, they must ply their trade in the grueling Championship and they must also prepare for a mass exodus as far as the players are concerned. The same report claims that Jay Rodriguez and Salomon Rondon are nearing the exit door, Darren Moore will have a massive void to fill.

The former Peterborough United and Watford striker enjoyed a decent time with Middlesbrough last season. He was a big-money signing for the club and he certainly repaid their faith by smashing 15 goals in 47 appearances across competitions.

He has a good amount of experience in the second-tier competition, meaning he would be a great signing for West Brom this summer. They struggled majorly in front of the goal last season and hence, the Baggies must sign a powerful goalscorer ahead of the new term.

Quick with his feet and accurate with his shots, Assombalonga can be a solid force to reckon with up front. He would go a long way in solving West Brom’s woes next season, particularly if they lose the likes of Rodriguez and Rondon.

The 25-year-old would thrive under Moore’s watchful eyes and he has all the necessary tools to act as a game-changer for the club. After everything that has transpired, West Brom must aim to secure a direct promotion to the top-flight and Assombalonga can certainly help them in that regard.

As far as Middlesbrough are concerned, they finished 5th in the Championship last season but they faltered in the final stages of the season. In fact, their performances during the playoffs were hardly mediocre and they lost 1-0 to Aston Villa.

Since they came so close to getting back to the top-flight, manager Tony Pulis must strengthen his squad in the ongoing transfer window. Hence, the club should be open to the prospect of freeing up a wage bill and offloading Assombalonga for a considerable amount of money.

The lethal striker has proven his mettle in the Championship and he seems like the ideal choice for the Baggies right now. During his tenure at Nottingham Forest, Assombalonga scored a total of 30 goals which speaks volumes of his calibre and talent. Hence, West Brom must not hesitate and quickly wrap up a deal for the promising forward.
