Newcastle United v Bournemouth report: Newcastle United Match Report

Matt Ritchie came back to haunt Bournemouth as his last-gasp stunning volley earned Newcastle United a point in the 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

Salomon Rondon had put Newcastle United ahead late in the first half, but Joshua King struck twice after the break. However, Ritchie struck in added time to claim a hard-fought point for the Magpies.

Rafael Benitez, without the injured Jamaal Lascelles and the suspended Fabian Schar, made three changes to his starting XI as Mohamed Diame, Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett started at the Vitality.

But the first real chance fell to the home side, with Ryan Fraser striking the post after King had found him in space. The rest of the half saw no team create clear-cut opportunities, with fouls and stoppages punctuated the rhythm of the game.

But five minutes into the added time, Salomon Rondon gave Newcastle the lead with a beautiful free-kick, over the wall and into the keeper’s top right corner, after Miguel Almiron had been tripped by Jordan Ibe.

Just a couple of minutes after the restart, Bournemouth were level, though. Mike Dean was harsh in pointing to the spot after Fernandez had put his hands on Nathan Ake as he went for the corner. King stepped up and sent Martin Dubravka the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Bournemouth pushed for the winner and came close to making it 2-1, only for Paul Dummett to clear a Callum Wilson header off the line.

On 81st minute, however, the home side took the lead. Substitute Dominic Solanke danced his way past a couple of players into the box before he laid the ball to King, who swept home past Dubravka from just inside the box.

Benitez sent on Yoshinori Muto and Jonjo Shelvey for the final 10 minutes of the game to help the Magpies find an equaliser. Just when all looked done and dusted for Newcastle, a deep cross from DeAndre Yedlin was stunningly volleyed home from inside the box by ex-Cherrie, Matt Ritchie.
