Neil Warnock

We are just two months away from the highly-anticipated Premier League season and the fans are already looking forward to the list of mouth-watering clashes. With the relegation of teams like Swansea City, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion, it will be interesting to see how the newly-promoted clubs fill their shoes.

All three relegated teams had a very stable position in Premier League until last season. Both Swansea and West Brom spent 7 seasons in England’s top-flight competition while Stoke City managed to stay afloat for a decade. Hence, the absence of these clubs will surely be felt in the new season.

However, at the same time, the newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers, Cardiff City and Fulham will be determined to make a mark.

Cardiff City 1

Having finished second in the Championship last season, Cardiff City have a good advantage coming into the top-flight. The last time they played in the top-flight, Cardiff managed to win just seven of their 38 matches. With 22 losses, they finished last. But here are 3 reasons why the current Cardiff City team should be taken seriously.

Cardiff City’s scintillating performance in the Championship

Passionately called ‘the Bluebirds’, the Sean Morrison-led side put up a solid show on the field throughout the season, which eventually earned them a place in the Premier League. Cardiff fought tooth-and-nail with Wolves till the end of the season before finishing second, nine points behind Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.

Defenders amongst the top goal-scorers

Cardiff’s defence was rock-solid throughout the 2017/18 season. But what makes them a dangerous team is their ability to transition from defending to attacking in the blink of an eye. This style of play has yielded stupendous success for the club. In fact, defenders Sean Morrison, Sol Bamba and Callum Paterson contributed to 21 of the 69 goals scored last season.

Neil Warnock: Four decades of managerial experience

Next season, opponents will not only be up against Cardiff City but they will also be up against a person with nearly 40 years of managerial experience.

Having managed prominent clubs like Huddersfield Town, Shrewsbury, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United – Warnock knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

The gaffer took charge of Cardiff City in October 2016 and he has not looked back since then. When Premier League giants like Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham face Cardiff, they need to remember that they will be facing a manager of Warnock’s calibre.
