The family moved back to New York, where Szczerbiak attended Cold Spring Harbor High School and averaged 36.6 points and 15 rebounds in the 1994-95 season. He committed to attending Miami University where he was named as the MAC Player of the Year, second-team All American by the Associated Press, and first-team All-American by Basketball News and Sports Illustrated.
The Minnesota Timberwolves picked him sixth overall in the 1999 NBA Draft. He played eight seasons with the Wolves. Szczerbiak scored 44 points in 2003 to tie the franchise record, one which was later broken by Kevin Love Corey Brewer, Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mo Williams, and Derrick Rose. He was a prominent shooting guard who made the coach’s selection into the 2002 Western Conference All-Star team.
