Anthony Pettis is known for Showtime kick but not everyone can pull it off

Former UFC and WEC Champion, Anthony Pettis, might have changed promotions recently but he will always be remembered for his Showtime kick.

This took place more than a decade ago at WEC 53 where he defeated Benson Henderson to keep the title. The Showtime kick saw Pettis jump off the cage and perform a switch kick, which knocked his rival down.

Pettis is remembered for this kick and many stars have tried to copy it in recent years. Performing such a move isn’t easy and that was more than evident from a clip shared on social media.

A Twitter user shared video from one of the smaller promotions where a large athlete tried to perform the Showtime kick.

It didn’t work out so well as the fighter lost his balance, fell down and then was attacked by his rival. It is difficult to say who came out on top in this fight as the clipping was just a few seconds long but it highlighted how much talent is needed to perform the kick.

Pettis caught a view of this and posted his reaction to this and it seemed he was surprised a bit:

Hall of Famer?

While Pettis won his last fight in the UFC against Alex Morono, this also turned out to be his final appearance in the promotion.

Showtime ended up signing for PFL and expected to make a run for the title in his new home. The American also believed he could get inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame for all that he achieved in the company.

Pettis was another big name that either left or was released by the UFC in 2020. Yoel Romero and Anderson Silva were two other big names released by the UFC but Romero ended up signing for Bellator.
