Marvin Vettori has heaped praises on Beneil Dariush, and claims that it’s unfair that the fighter is getting skipped owing to an injury
The UFC announced earlier today that Charles Oliviera and Islam Makhachev will contest for the vacant lightweight throne at UFC 280, on October 22nd in Abu Dhabi. A matchup being panegyrized as a grappler’s delight, the outcome of this fight can drastically change the landscape of the lightweight division. Before Makhachev dismantled Bobby Green in his last fight, he was supposed to fight Beneil Dariush at UFC Vegas 49. However, Dariush pulled out of the fight due to injury.
Now with Islam Makhchev being booked to fight for the title, and other fighters not wanting to fight Beneil, the Iranian-American fighter finds himself in a tough spot. Even upcoming fighters like Mateusz Gamrot, and Rafael Fiziev have called out Justin Gaethje for a fight, and Dariush is getting overlooked and shelved.
This does not sit well with Marvin Vettori, who has trained with Dariush in the past. Vettori had once blasted Conor Mcgregor in the past for calling Beneil the biggest nobody and said that he wouldn’t last two minutes with him.
Vettori recently posted a tweet saying, ”It’s about time, one time he gets injured and all in a sudden he can’t get a fight forever and he get skipped over. @beneildariush is the best lightweight give him a chance to prove it”
‘Free Nate Diaz’- Marvin Vettori has voiced his support for good friend Nate Diaz over his ongoing dispute with the UFC
Nate Diaz has emerged to be one of the biggest superstars in the game right now. Even though he has lost two of his previous fights, his stocks remain high to this day, and the UFC is cognizant of that. However, the younger Diaz brother has been adamant about the idea of a move away from the UFC.
The Stockton slugger has his sights set on a move away from the sport, with a feasible jump to boxing. The younger Diaz brother was among the first wave of fighters that set motion the fighter pay dispute. He has been vocal about his contract with the UFC, and along with his brother Nick, became the first of a very elite group of fighters to negotiate PPV points into their contract without a belt.
It’s being rumored that the UFC is stalling Diaz’s move by offering him difficult fights, while he has been throwing names at the UFC top brass for his last fight.
Weighing in on the situation, Marvin Vettori has come out in support of his good friend Nate Diaz. The pair have sparred with each other sporadically in the past, and share a cordial relationship.
During a recent interview with The Schmo, Vettori was asked about how he felt about the quagmire, to which he replied,
“I don’t know exactly what is going on. Yeah man free Nate, if he wants to go let him go you know.”
