Khabib Nurmagomedov took a shot at Jon Jones over who is the MMA GOAT
The debate over who the MMA GOAT rages on with Jon Jones and Khabib Nurmagomedov firmly involved in it.
Khabib retired from the UFC with an undefeated career. He went 29-0 and was the Lightweight Champion before calling his time in the Octagon.
Many labelled him as the GOAT of MMA not only because of his undefeated run but also how he was a role model outside of it.
However, there is also Jon Jones, who many believe is the greatest of all-time thanks to his domination of the Light Heavyweight division. No one was able to defeat Jones in the division but there are several transgressions which led to him being stripped of the title.
Jones has also had problems with the law and has been arrested several times. Khabib and Jones hold each other in high regard but they keep taking shots at each other.
Jones didn’t believe Khabib was the GOAT after he brought up his title defences. Jones has had title fights 14 times while Khabib has had four.
The American might have won that metric but it isn’t enough to convince Khabib.
Jon Jones is almost the GOAT
Khabib might have retired from MMA but he is still part of it. The Eagle is now a coach for many stars and was in the corner of Abubakar Nurmagomedov, his cousin, and Islam Makhachev too.
Both stars went on to get impressive wins and Khabib posted a photo of him supporting his fans.
One Twitter user posted a crying image of Jones and brought up the GOAT comment, but Khabib responded with an “almost”.
This isn’t the first time Khabib has hit out at Jones and it won’t be the last either. It is difficult to name who the GOAT of MMA is, to be honest.
Khabib and Jones are incredible MMA stars but the likes of Georges St-Pierre and others cannot be neglected in the debate.
The problem with deciding a GOAT is that the benchmark keeps changing all the time. The UFC has had some incredible fighters and there will be GOATs coming out every three years or so.
